Attention Models and Talent. It has been brought to my attention that there is a man named “Fresh” saying he works with Carinae Casting , uses a CarinaeStudios email address and is trying to meet up with models. A model was worried about her safety and decided to so her research. This is what she wrote me…
“I have been contacted by a “Fresh” I just wanted to see if he was actually
affiliated with your company only because he doesn’t have the same domain as
your site… plus I didn’t see his name on the website either. I am a model
and I just need to know for my security.”
Thanks,
If you don’t receive and email from the carinaecasting.com website or carinaecasting [at] aol [dot] com it is not us! You can always double check on our website. We post all our castings and we have contact information on the website. Models/Talent make sure you do your research. If someone says that they are an agency, please take the time to try to google them or ask around. You can always go on twitter, facebook, or myspace to ask the public if they have heard of the agency.
Thank you for taking the time…smile, shine and be safe!

Death of the M.O.D.E.L: Adapt and Overcome by Dawn Montgomery

Let the story be told: My peers suggest that it is easier to do what everyone else around you may be doing to get ahead. My peers state that being a nice & humble woman will only get you a mountain of heartache in this industry. The modeling industry is not something that can be conquered overnight. Whether it is high fashion or urban modeling, you have to find your niche and really work hard to make a name for yourself. It really takes determination and perseverance to really endure the hardships that this industry brings.
The urban modeling industry is stereotyped as the home of countless TFPs, curvaceous women that are exploited, and the lowest paying unstable job in America. It is an industry that some women think it is easier to take the back door, when really you must do everything properly and in order. As a model you should set a standard and work hard to keep it. You have to keep a certain focus and use your personal industry positioning plan to direct your path. If you do not understand how this industry works then this is not the place for you.
Some model’s careers have died slowly due to these causes:
Materialistic desires
Overexposed body parts
Diva mentalities
Egotistical actions
Laziness towards their education of the industry
Deaths of the M.O.D.E.L are being executed now as we speak. Some are dying slowly. Some are dying quickly. There are a few that will be saved by their willingness to adapt and overcome the adversities that are faced in this industry. The many hurdles that I have personally jumped over come with an award-winning transforming piece of art that has cried, sweated, and yelled over countless opportunities missed. I am a simple woman that has grown to understand that her beauty is beyond what is seen on the outside, but what has been educated and nurtured on the inside.
What is inside of me is a heart that beats passion for what I have used to be visible and try to reach the masses of the uneducated. It is hard to master the art of modeling, but if you come into the industry with some knowledge of how things work then you have a higher chance of succeeding. Nothing is given to you. You have to have the necessary tools that are needed to succeed in this industry. Forget what everyone else is doing and focus on what you need to do individually and not fall victim to the dying breed. This may offend my industry connects, but there is a continuous need to stress the reality of this leeching industry.
Do not become another modeling statistic.
Focus on what you can bring new to the industry besides another young woman who thought they could model because of club photos, home portraits, and your lost desire to be wanted. Be a face and voice within your community. Use your career as a way to help bring light to a situation within your life or community. The Death of an M.O.D.E.L does not have to affect you directly, but the cause of death can help guide you to a better career path. If you are a model then prove it. We will see who will outlive the dying breed that walks among us now… Death of an M.O.D.E.L… Moment of SILENCE!
Modeling Scams!!!

Scams in the World of Modeling…
The bad news about the modeling industry: it’s full of scams. The good news: education can keep you from avoiding all of them.
One of the most basic kinds of modeling agency scams is an individual, a couple, a group, or company calling itself a modeling agency, when it is not a modeling agency.
A photographer, for example, may call himself a modeling agency, when in reality all he has is a photo studio. A photo studio, however, is not a modeling agency.
There are also modeling agencies which are photo mills. They do not get people work. They do not make all their money from commissions after models work; instead, they make most of their money or even all of their money from modeling photos, before a model gets any work.
This type of modeling agency runs what is one of the most basic kinds of modeling agency scams: a modeling photography scam.
The modeling agency pretends it is going to get aspiring models work, and to do that, the aspiring model will need photos, or comp cards, or a portfolio.
So the hopeful model pays hundreds or thousands of dollars on photography, but never gets any work.
A major modeling agency scam is when the agency makes all its money from photography, or it takes all the money the models spend on photos. They can do this because they have their own photographer(s). (If, for example, a model spends $1,000 on photos, the agency takes and keeps $1,000.)
Work
Regarding work, three questions must be asked of all modeling agencies:
1. How many of their models get work?
2. How much work do the models get?
3. How much money do the models make?
If none of the models get work, it is more than likely a total scam.
If most of the models get work, but they don’t do more than one modeling job, and they don’t make more than they paid for modeling photos (comp cards), it could be a modeling scam.
A legitimate modeling agency cannot guarantee all its models will work. After all, which models work and which models do not work is not the choice of the agency. The best they can do is recommend specific models to their clients, but the clients ultimately decide.

FYI: When there’s a casting, model call or a photographer, do your research. Check their websites and ask around in the streets and on the blogs to see if the company/business is legit…
